Habanero Pepper Olives: SBOC

Habanero Pepper Stuffed Olives

Habanero peppers are one of the hottest peppers grown and consumed in a commercial manner. Although they are part of the chili pepper species, their exact origin is unknown, but it is speculated that they originally came from South America. With a rating between 100,000 and 350,000 on the Scoville scale, the habanero is hot enough to knock your socks off! It is often mistakenly referred to as the hottest pepper in the world (the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T pepper is the hottest in the world) but don’t worry, it’s still incredibly spicy.

These stuffed olives from the Santa Barbara Olive Company combine this heat with large green Sevallano olives. Each olive is hand stuffed with a habanero pepper to give you a very hot kick and a flavor explosion. The habanero itself delivers a fruity, citrus-like flavor and a floral aroma.

Use these spicy olives any way you please! Include them as part of an appetizer tray; the color combination of the green olives and the orange pepper makes for an eye-catching arrangement. For a more inventive idea, throw them on a pizza if you like the heat. And if you wish to spread the heat around, use these stuffed olives to make a tapenade, which is a dish originating in southern France made of finely chopped olives, capers, anchovies and olive oil.
