Dried Black Trumpet Mushrooms

These dried mushrooms are very dark in color, and shaped like inverted trumpets. If you’re of the outdoors type, there’s a good chance that you’ve been around them. However, there’s also a chance that you didn’t see them! Because of their dark shade, they often blend in with the leafy forest floor. Hunters are bound to find them eventually, though, as they’re fairly common in mixed deciduous forests. Luckily for us, as well as Earthly Delights, Black Trumpets are relatively easy to dry and store. Due to their unique texture and flavor, they’re the mushrooms of choice for many French dishes. Additionally, the flagrant flavor of the mushroom makes it a prime candidate for drying a particular variety of white wine! Sometimes called the “poor man’s truffle,” Black Trumpets Mushrooms have a rather smoky smell and a smooth, buttery taste. These dried mushrooms are an ideal compliment to lamb or beef, and go well in a sauce served over poultry. If you’re an early riser and like a good, healthy breakfast, you might consider adding some diced trumpets to your omelet.
