It consists of eggplant (40% minimum), celery, tomato, puree, water, sunflower oil, onions, olives, wine vinegar, sugar, capers and salt.
10.5oz Jar
In other words, it’s a cooked vegetable salad of sorts.
It is known for its taste, which is similar to that of real sweet and sour dressing.

While there are a multitude of variations of Sicilian Caponata, none is so famous as the Palermo version, which incorporates none other than . . . octopus. Some other versions add swordfish or lobster. Again, though, these are variations of the traditional eggplant appetizer that we offer. Don’t worry; Contorno brand doesn’t have any octopi on its ingredients list!

Sicilian Caponata goes great as an appetizer or alongside a main course. In using it as an appetizer, try serving it with different types of crackers as a dip. It is best if served cold or at room temperature. For a side portion, you can include it with any kind of meat or poultry. Its light nature makes it a great compliment to any food with more of a meaty texture. This includes pasta, rice, or even scrambled eggs.
